My new favorite relaxation drink is kombucha. Kombu-what? Kombucha is a fizzy, refreshing, fermented tea drink that has amazing health benefits. Many people believe kombucha can aid in cancer recovery, increases energy, sharpens eyesight, aids joint recovery, improves skin elasticity, aids digestion, and improves experience with foods that ‘stick’ going down such as rice or pasta. You can get it at natural food stores and some people even brew it at home.
WOW – that’s cool, but you know why I like it? Because it tastes good and it makes me feel great!. It’s like a soda but good for you – not too sweet but flavorful, bubbly, and refreshing. I’ve gotten Dave hooked too and we have had a few “kombucha happy hours” where we happily drink our kombucha tea on the deck instead of alcohol, and our bodies both thank us afterwards.
Kombucha has probotics in it, which are the “good gut guys” for your body. Your intestines carry an enormous amount of beneficial bacteria that are needed for digestion. A healthy body produces these naturally, but sometimes things like a poor diet, stress, lack of sleep, antibiotics, etc. can wreak havoc on your gut and those good little guys can’t do their job.
That’s where a little help from probiotics can come along. Adding probiotics, whether in supplement form or something like kombucha, can boost your overall wellness. Your immune system starts in the gut, so if your gut is healthy, you have a much better chance of being more healthy overall. And, if your gut is healthy you of course have great digestion and a happy tummy (2 things I am passionate about! LOL!)
